In the early 1980s Vince and I formed a band in Florida called The Ridin’ High Band. Night after night we played covers of popular music of that time. One thing we could count on was someone from the audience shouting FREEBIRD. We liked Lynyrd Skynyrd music.
Back then Vince worked harder at music than I did. He was committed to being a lifetime musician and was all in. I was just having fun.
Fast forward to today. Our future as a group is uncertain due to Herm’s health. Truthfully, it’s been more difficult to practice and spend time writing new music due to the uncertainty. Recently during our zoom meeting Vince announced that he had purchased a new keyboard. Disregarding the unpredictability of the future, he committed to a positive outcome by purchasing a new keyboard. He’s still all in.
My favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song is The Ballad Of Curtis Loew. My favorite line is “On the day he lost his life that’s all he had to lose”. That’s Vince. He gives our music everything he’s got.
